Paris City Pass

Public transport in Paris and your pass

Let's be honest up front: no Paris pass includes the metro, bus or RER. Here's what you need instead.

No pass includes the metro, bus or RER

This is where many Paris visitors get their sums wrong: while city cards elsewhere include public transport, the Paris passes don't. Neither the Museum Pass nor the City Pass, Flex Pass, The Paris Pass Plus or Explorer Pass cover the metro, bus or RER. Earlier versions of the City Pass partly included public transport, but that's no longer the case. So always budget for your ticket separately.

Your public transport options

  • Ticket t+ (single ticket): Valid for one journey on the metro, bus, tram or RER within the city. Worth it if you're only travelling occasionally.
  • Navigo Easy / day passes: A top-up card or day pass for frequent travel. Pays off from several journeys a day.
  • Navigo Jour / weekly pass: For longer stays with daily public transport use.

Which ticket suits you depends on how much you're travelling. If you cover the central highlights on foot and with the hop-on hop-off bus included in your pass, a handful of single tickets is often all you need.

Many highlights are clustered close together in the centre. Between neighbourhoods, the metro gets you around quickly.

Airport and city centre

The transfer from the airport (RER B or Roissybus from Charles de Gaulle, Orlybus from Orly) isn't included in any pass either. Budget for it separately, whichever city pass you choose.

Bottom line

Public transport is the one thing every Paris pass leaves out. Factor it into every option, and your budget will add up. To see which pass otherwise suits you, check the comparison.

Questions about public transport

Is the metro included in a Paris pass? +

No. Unlike in many other cities, no Paris pass covers public transport. You always buy your metro ticket separately.

What about the hop-on hop-off bus? +

It doesn't replace public transport, but it's handy: the City Pass and The Paris Pass Plus include a sightseeing bus tour between the highlights. For everyday journeys, you'll still need a metro or bus ticket.
